Welsh squad announced
Warren Gatland announced the Welsh squad for their opening Six Nations match against Ireland on Sunday at the Aviva Stadium. The formidable loose trio of Warburton, Tipuric & Faletau will look to gain dominance against a strong Irish pack and hope to set their exciting backs away with quick ball.

Head coach Warren Gatland picked three players in his starting 15 who did not feature in the recent Rugby World Cup – Rob Evans, Tom James and Jonathan Davies. Of those, Cardiff Blues winger Tom James wins his first cap for over 5 years or 65 Wales tests, whilst Gareth Anscombe makes an RBS 6 Nations debut.

There are a total of 364 caps named on the bench – Wales’s 2nd highest total ever, just four behind the seven-man bench which were named against Canada during RWC 2007.

Should Bradley Davies come on he will become the 39th Welshman to win a 50th cap. The 15 have 579 test caps between them; the bench has a further 364 caps.

The average age of the walk-on team is 26.9 years; the average on the bench is 28.3.
