Hooper to captain Waratahs
Waratahs have announced that Michael Hooper has been appointed captain next season.
Hooper joined the NSW side in 2013 and has played 80 minutes in 48 of his 50 matches. He finished last season with the highest number of tackles made, as well as leading the team's forwards in run meters. He shared second place for the most tackle busts and try assists.
“I’m a NSW boy through and through. Growing up in NSW and getting the opportunity to lead NSW is a huge privilege, especially after taking over from Dave Dennis who has been a big influence on my career,” Hooper said. Dennis will remain as Waratahs Club Captain and the two will lead the team together with the support of a senior leadership team.
Henshaw close to fitness
Connacht centre Robbie Henshaw is on course for a return to the Connacht side ahead of this weekends clash with Russian side Enisei STM.
Pat Lam confirmed that Henshaw was back in training and was set to come back into the team after nearly 3 months out.
Lam also confirmed that there is no update on the contract situation of Henshaw and expressed his disappointment over the departure of Rodney Ah You
"He went for that scan (last week) and it showed that he wasn't quite ready, he needed another week or two. That's why he didn't go to Brive," said Lam. "Again he feels pretty good with it, but he needs the final sign-off from the scan on Friday. He's trained this week and will train for the rest of the week and prepare to play."
"That's ongoing, there's no decision on that," said Lam on Henshaw. "I think the big one, we are disappointed that Rodney (Ah You) made the decision to leave, but for me the whole focus is on those who want to be here."
