Cardiff Blues release Salesi Ma'afu
Cardiff Blues can confirm tight-head prop Salesi Ma’afu has been released from the remainder of his contract.
The former Australia international joined Wales’ Capital Region during the 2015-16 campaign and will now link up with Gloucester in the English Premiership.
The 33-year-old, who has been capped 14 times by his country, began his rugby career as part of the New South Wales Waratahs Academy, before moving to the Brumbies where he first worked with Laurie Fisher, making his Super Rugby debut in 2007.
Ma'afu has trained with his new team mates this week and will be available for selection for this weekend's European Rugby Challenge Cup fixture at home to Benetton Treviso.
Brumbies sign Lolo Fakaosilea
Former Australian Schoolboys and Australian U20s representative Lolo Fakaosilea has signed for the Brumbies on a two-year deal.
The 21-year old represented the Queensland Reds four times after making his Super Rugby debut against the Hurricanes in 2015.
“Lolo is one of those players we’ve had our eyes on for a while,” said Brumbies Head Coach Stephen Larkham.
“It’s no secret that he’s a hard-hitter, but it’s his other skills that will make him a strong addition to our squad.
“He’s had a taste of Super Rugby and we are very pleased he will be joining us for the 2017 Season.”
Glasgow sign youngster from Ayr
Glasgow Warriors have signed 21-year-old loose forward Ruaridh Mackenzie until the end of the season.
The deal – made in partnership with BT Premiership side Ayr – will see MacKenzie pursue his career in the country of his birth, and for whom his father Gregor won a single cap at prop against Australia (1984) alongside Scotland greats Colin Deans and Iain Milne.
Mackenzie made his debut off the bench for Ayr on Saturday and scored a try in the 39-13 win over Glasgow Hawks.
Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: "It’s a great opportunity for Ruaridh to immerse himself in our culture and style of play.
"He has already made a positive impression in training and on his debut for Ayr at the weekend. Spending time with both clubs will really benefit Ruaridh and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue his development."
