Ngani Laumape stole the show with Jordie Barrett slotting a late conversion as the Hurricanes edged the Blues 29-27 in a thrilling round 6 Super Rugby Aotearoa clash.
The Blues opened the scoring with an early penalty, but the Hurricanes hit back with the game's first try to lead 7-3. The Blues responded with a try to edge in front, but were then reduced to 14 players after picking up a yellow card. The Hurricanes were unable to capitalize on their numerical advantage, with a try for the Blues extending their lead out to 15-7.
The Hurricanes would finish the first half strongly, with a late try and a penalty with the final play seeing the scores deadlocked at 15-15 at the break.
The Hurricanes struck first in the second half, with their third try pushing them ahead 22-15. The Blues then crossed for two tries in quick succession midway through the second half to once again surge in front 27-22 setting up an intense final 15 minutes.
However, there would be one final twist in the tale as a late Hurricanes try saw the conversion slotted from out wide to see the hosts snatch a hard fought two point victory.
