The Highlanders scored the opening try of their quarter-final clash with the Crusaders in Christchurch.

Josh Ioane spread the ball wide with a great skip pass before Rob Thompson provided a brilliant offload to Ben Smith who drew the last defender to put Sio Tomkinson over for the first try of the game.

The Crusaders hit back soon after.
