Watch: Ma'ama Vaipulu red carded for big hit off the ball on Danty

Bordeaux back-rower Ma'ama Vaipulu made life difficult for his club in their second leg of the Champions Cup round of 16 after he was shown a red card in the 25th minute.

Bordeaux were already down 13-31 ahead of the second leg and not much had changed with each side knocking over a penalty before Vaipulu was given his marching orders.

The back-rower was shown a straight red card after he thundered into Jonathan Danty off the ball after Ihaia West broke through a gap in the Bordeaux defence.

Vaipulu shoulder charged into Danty while attempting to chase down West with referee Wayne Barnes left no choice but to send him off.

La Rochelle took control of the match from there with West, Gregory Alldritt, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, and Levani Botia all scoring tries.

Federico Mori and Gatien Masse did get tries back for Bordeaux but the damage was down as they were beaten 31-23 on the day, and 62-36 on aggregate.
