The Hurricanes cemented their place in the Super Rugby playoffs and are bolstered by home advantage for their quarter-final in the play-offs following their 17-37 victory over the Lions.
The Hurricanes dominated the second half with Ben Lam touching down for the Hurricanes in the early moments of the second half and the Wellington side pulled away, with Lam again touching down and Dane Coles also finishing with a brace.
However, the Lions were left off the hook in the 64th minute when replacement loose forward Hacjivah Dayimani high tackled Hurricanes' scrumhalf TJ Perenara in the build up to one of Coles' tries.
The All Black scrumhalf was left motionless following the tackle as Coles dived over out wide.
Dayimani escaped the despite referee Jaco Peyper spotting the incident while Perenara recovered to the finish the game.
