Watch: Finn Russell's two brilliant try assists against Montpellier
- 4017
An entertaining Top 14 encounter on Friday evening saw Racing 92 claim their second victory of the 2020/21 season as they scored five tries to down Montpellier 41-17 with Finn Russell the catalyst in the victory.
The thrilling clash between two Top 14 heavyweights saw Kurtley Beale get red-carded on his home debut for the Parisian club as well as the unfortunate injury to Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard which saw the playmaker stretchered off the pitch.
Russell starred in Racing's opening game of the season scoring a try and assisting another and the Scottish International was in a similarly destructive mood on Friday against Montpellier.
Finn only played for 57 minutes but managed to assist two of Racing's five tries and completed three offloads. His first assist came from a brilliantly weighted kick to his centre Virimi Vakatawa with the centre speeding through the defence to score out wide.
His second was just as brilliant as he started the move by assisting the line break with a great offload to Juan Imhoff having already started the move with a nice up and under that Racing managed to get back.
Once Racing got into the 22, Russell put in a pinpoint cross-kick out to no.8 Antonie Classen who scored twice on the night.
Shortly after Russell was replaced, Beale was sent for an early shower with Montpellier capitalising to score two tries with lock Nico Janse van Rensburg and Cobus Reinach scoring for the visitors.
Racing 92 had the final say with Hassane Kolingar scoring in the final play of the game with Maxime Machenaud adding the extras.
