Wasps rookie scores a hattrick as Leicester concede a record

19-year-old Alfie Barbeary bagged a hat-trick as Wasps thrashed Leicester, running in eight tries to keep their Premiership play-off bid on track.

Hooker Barbeary, in just his second Premiership appearance and first start, started the clash at blindside flank scored all three of his tries in the second half as Wasps scored 40 unanswered second half points after leading Leicester 14-7 at the break.

Leicester's Cameron Henderson scored the opening try of the game with Zack Henry's conversion in the sixth minute being the last impact Tigers would make on the scoreboard.

 

Wasps quickly responded through Malakai Fekitoa and Tom West as Tigers paid for their ill-discipline.


 

Barbeary crossed three times to give the hosts control after the break with Jacob Umaga, Sam Spink and Zach Kibirige also scoring as Leicester fell to their biggest-ever league defeat.

Highly rated England u20s International Alfie Barbeary has quickly settled in to live in the Premiership with the 19-year-old scoring a try on his debut against Worcester and now a hattrick on his first start.

His first start also came out of position which didn't seem to faze the youngster as he dotted down for a hattrick made 67 running metres from 16 carries, beat seven defenders and assisted another try.

He also made all four of his tackles asked of him with Wasps dominating possession.
