Wallabies pushing expansive style in quest for back-to-back Argentina wins

Wallabies scrumhalf Jake Gordon believes the return to dry conditions can bring the best out of their side as they look to replicate their heroics in Argentina.

The scrumhalf suggests the Wallabies' attacking output has been limited by the conditions, with three of their six Tests played in the pouring rain, including their last two.

“We definitely see potential in our attack and I think dry conditions will probably suit us a little bit more to be able to play more expansive, but also really important that we get the fundamentals right around carry clean and that ball retention that you saw in the game on the weekend," Gordon told the media.

“I think especially in test match footy, field position is so important and you see teams nowadays that go so hard at the ball that it doesn't always allow you to play some footy in your own half so I think the weather has definitely dictated how we wanted to play.

“I think in that South Africa game in the afternoon game, they were really good and put a heap of pressure around the breakdown, which also limited the time we could spend in attack.

"That Georgia game I thought was probably up there with some of the best we've looked attack-wise and we got some really quick ball. It's not always easy to play off that front foot quick ball so we're hoping that it's going to be like that on Saturday and we'd love to play with a little bit more expansion."

With the team set to travel to Santa Fe in the coming 24 hours for Sunday's (AEST) Test, restarts remain at the top of the list.

The Wallabies dropped the ball on several occasions after scoring points in last week's win amid the tough conditions.

“That's definitely an area of growth for us," prop Allan Alaalatoa admits.

“Maybe the weather had something to play with that, but also a communication thing between the pod and our wingers there but it's definitely an area which we need to improve.

“When we give them that position, it’s hard for us to get out of our end so we need to focus on there and be better.”
