Wallabies: The imminent return of Michael Hooper
- 1759
Revered Wallaby leader Michael Hooper is on the verge of a return to the international arena as the team gears up for the Autumn Nations Cup.
Hooper has not been in the gold jersey since he decided to withdraw from the side ahead of this year’s Rugby Championship opener against Argentina. The reason for this, Hooper said, was that he was not in the right frame of mind for international rugby.
Now, however, Hooper appears poised to return to the fray ahead of their scheduled clashes against Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
Hooper’s friend and Wallaby teammate Bernard Foley said that the 30 year-old is once again ready for action.
“We’ve had some brief chats recently,” Foley said.
“I think he’s in a place where he’s excited, which is when he’s at his best.
“I think he’s still working on it. It’s going to be ongoing. Just what he went through and to see him wanting to come back is really exciting.”
However, it is understood that, for now, Hooper will not be tasked with the captaincy duties which will release him from the associated responsibilities and thus allow him to enjoy the tour.
“Hoops is being Hoops,” Foley continued. “That’s how you want him.
“I don’t think he’s going to drastically change. It’s good to see him being himself.”
