Wales Player Ratings v South Africa

Wales Player Ratings v South Africa

South Africa battled into the final of the Rugby World Cup as Handre Pollard's pinpoint kicking earned a 19-16 victory over Wales in a semi-final of attrition in Yokohama.

Here is how we rated Wales in the semi-final:

1. Wyn Jones - 6

Nice turnover when SA were piling on the pressure but battled a bit against the Boks pack.

2. Ken Owens - 7

13/13 off the line out. Work rate was exceptional, especially before Wales' try were he carried numerous times in short succession.

3. Tomas Francis - 5

Taken off injured after a massive hit, solid otherwise.

4. Jake Ball - 6

Strong carrying from the lock. Got stuck into the rucks but only lasted 60 minutes.

5. Alun-Wyn Jones - 7

Not to be for Wales' talisman today. Worked hard for his team as ever, called the lineout superbly.

6. Aaron Wainwright - 6

Work rate was very good around the park. Some big hits.

7. Justin Tipuric - 6

As per worked hard, with a 100% tackle success rate, less effective on attack.

8. Ross Moriarty - 7.5

Under immense pressure from the SA scrum did brilliant to offload to help setup Adams' try. Carried strong with 16 in total.

9. Gareth Davies - 4

Not his usual self, failed to control the game with his box kicks. Missed 3 tackles also. Taken off just after half time.

10. Dan Biggar - 6

Solid under the high ball and from the tee. Poor tackle technique for De Allende's try.

11. Josh Adams - 7

Went over for a crucial score in the corner to help his side get level, made 50 running metres and was dangerous with the little ball he saw.

12. Hadleigh Parkes - 5

Pretty quiet throughout, made 6 tackles and won his side a turnover.

13. Jonathan Davies - 6

Some solid hands led to Adams try in the corner, otherwise a quiet game.

14. George North - 5

Gutting for North to be taken off injured just before half time. Looked bright before the injury.

15. Leigh Halfpenny - 7.5

Tough conversion from the corner to get his side level. Really good under the high ball.

Bossed Wales backfield giving the Boks kickers little space to work with.
