Wales 8-32 Australia: Top 3 Performers
- 2471
The Wallabies got their November campaign off to a winning start in Cardiff this afternoon against a lethargic Welsh side. The Aussies impressed right from the off and had the result out of reach from Wales at the break. We take a further look below at the players who impressed in today's clash.
Bernard Foley
The out-half gave an exemplary performance today for the Wallabies which should keep him in the side as the first choice stand-off for this November tour. He threatened the Welsh defensive line throughout the game which left space outside for his backline to consistently get over the gainline. He assisted one try with a killer cut-out pass to Kurindrani who went over in the corner. He even got over for a five pointer himself when he spotted a mismatch in midfield on the counter attack, and raced away to score in the corner. Though he was inconsistent with kicks from the tee he still fully deserved his man of the match award.
Tevita Kuridrani
The centre was an ever present threat in the middle of the field today, as the Wallabies used him time and time again to run hard lines, punching holes in the welsh defence. He was crucial as a dummy runner in a few moves which opened up the Australian defence who marshalled him closely. His try was a terrific example of what a fantastic athlete he is as he collected a pass from Foley on the welsh twenty-two before using his pace and power to beat all the defenders and barrel over in the corner.
Israel Folau
The cross-code convert showed why he is regarded by many as the best fullback in the game today. As always he was comfortable under the high balls launched by the Welsh halfbacks and always seemed to beat the first defender when he ran back. As former league players usually do, he put in a number of offloads which gave the Welsh defence many problems. He constantly drew two defenders when running at the line and linked well with youngster Reece Hodge for his try.
