Victor Matfield has reportedly said no to the Bulls head coach job he applied for because of family reasons.
The former Springbok lock was favourite to be unveiled as the new head coach of the club ahead of the 2019 Super Rugby season, with Pote Human, the other man shortlisted for the position, expected to be named as one of Matfield's assistant coaches while Alan Zondagh was in line to be named as the new Director of Rugby.
According to Rapport newspaper, in addition to family reasons, Matfield said no to the job because of the long-term security offered to him by SuperSport as a commentator/expert.
Bulls president Willem Strauss and new CEO Alfons Meyer have asked Matfield to reconsider, and the former Bulls and Bok lock will make a final decision on Monday or early in the week as he wants to “iron out” some details with his other employers before being appointed at the club.
