Van Staden and Gomede re-signs with the Bulls

Pretoria – The Vodacom Bulls have solidified the core of their future roster, confirming
long-term contract extensions for Springbok flanker Marco van Staden and explosive loose
forward Mpilo Gumede.
The dual signings represent a significant move in the franchise’s multi-year recruitment and
retention strategy. Van Staden has committed to the club until June 2028, while Gumede has
signed a five-year deal that keeps him at Loftus Versfeld until June 2029.
Both players are central to the tactical evolution under coach Johan Ackermann.
Van Staden, a double-World Cup winner who recently notched his 100th cap for the
Vodacom Bulls, provides the veteran breakdown expertise and physicality that has defined
the Pretoria pack since he first joined in 2017.
Gumede, meanwhile, represents the next generation of Vodacom Bulls' ambition. Since his
arrival from the Sharks in July 2023, the 25-year-old has transitioned from a high-potential
prospect into a team regular. By securing him until 2029, the Vodacom Bulls have locked
down one of the most versatile back-row talents in the country.
Vodacom Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone emphasised that these extensions are a cornerstone of
the club’s professional roadmap.
