UR Try of the Weekend
- 1971
The Ultimate Rugby 'Try of the Weekend' comes from France as last year's TOP14 regular season table toppers La Rochelle faced the Bouclier de Brennus champions Clermont at the Stade Marcel Deflandre.
The home side came out of the blocks quickly scoring a try on their opening drive as Gabriel Lacroix touched down with 90 seconds on the clock after some slick passing and an initial break from Paul Jordaan inside their 22.
La Rochelle took command of the contest in opening passages building up a substantial lead as they went into the break 43-6 ahead over Les Jaunards.
Lacroix finished the game with a hat-trick of tries, gaining 134m in attack, beating four defenders, three clean breaks and throwing a offload.
