Coach Izak van der Westhuizen: “We are pleased with where we are this week. The guys brought a lot of effort and put in a lot of time.”

“The whole idea is to be a breeding ground again for younger players, and giving opportunities is what we want to do. Hopefully, they’ll grasp it with both hands and use it to ‘say here I am’ and get into the squad for Currie Cup as well.”

On changes made after the warm-up match against the Griquas on 9 March in Jacobsdal, Van der Westhuizen said: “There are more minor changes we have made. The group that played against the Griquas was young, and we came very close to beating them. We saw a lot of positives, and we will keep building from those things while rectifying the more minor things.

The captain for the match, Carl Wegner said:  “I’m excited for the game on Friday. I think there’s a lot of potential in our team. Many young guys also come through with a lot of experience in their own way.

Oupa Mohoje said:  “It’s been a while since I have played. I am excited about the opportunity that I’m going to get. I think the main thing for me is also to try to play my own game, and in my own game, it will impress the coaches so that I stand a chance to travel and play in the EPCR.”
