Round 3 of Super Rugby AU saw the Brumbies enjoy a narrow win over their Sydney rivals, the Waratahs (24-23), while the Reds managed to get the better of the Western Force in Brisbane (31-24). We take a look at the top performers in the stats from an impressive round.
Round 3 yielded some noteworthy defensive efforts with Western Force blindside flanker Henry Stowers notching up the highest tackle count with 23. Stowers’ teammate on the side of the scrum, Tevin Ferris, completed 21 while Angus Scott-Young (Reds) made 20.
Stowers, was no slouch on the attacking front either, making the joint-most carries (14) with Brumbies flanker Tom Cusack. Lukhan Salakaia-Loto (Reds), James O’Connor (Reds), Filipo Daugunu (Reds) and Lachlan Swinton (Tahs) all made 13.
Western Force flyer Byron Ralston had his brilliant intercept try to thank for propelling him to the top of the ‘metres gained’ stat. The winger ended the game having racked up a massive 141 metres for his team. Jack McGregor (also Force) came in second with 99 metres while Tom Banks (Brumbies) was a close third with 98.
Reds centre Hunter Paisami was in good stepping form this round, managing to beat a total of 7 defenders. Brumbies winger Andy Muirhead and Reds scrumhalf Tate McDermott beat 6 while Bayley Kuenzle (Brumbies) Chris Feauai-Sautia (Reds) each got past 5.
Andy Muirhead showed good skill to lead the ‘turnovers won’ stat after the round with 3. Fraser McReight, Angus Scott-Young and Liam Wright (all Reds) managed 2 apiece.
Marcel Brache (Force) and Chris Feauai-Sautia showed astute attacking skill, each managing to execute 3 clean breaks while six players (Byron Ralston, Kyle Godwin (Force), Jack McGregor, Andy Muirhead, Tevin Ferris and Tate McDermott) made 2 each.
