Top Performers: USA v Tonga

Top Performers: USA v Tonga

Tonga made it nine wins out of 10 against the USA, as they beat the Eagles 31-19 in their final game of the Rugby World Cup in 2019.

The Pacific Nation will be delighted with the fact that they have broken their five match losing streak in the competition and made sure that they would not finish bottom of pool D.

Here are our top performers of the match:

Siale Piutau (Tonga)

The captain was named Man of the Match and boy did he deserve it! He put in a huge display on defence, making 93% of his tackles, and produced a turnover. On attack, Piutau made 20 metres with ball in hand, beat three defenders and scored a try which he converted himself.

It was also the Piutau’s birthday and it was his final game for his country!

Telusa Veainu (Tonga)

The full-back topped the charts with metres gained, as he made a total of 157 on his own. He also beat 11 defenders, had two clean breaks and then capped it all off with a stunning try.

Veainu made 24 carries in the match and is now the only Tongan to have scored five World Cup tries!

Mike Te’o

Came off the bench early for the USA and got himself a double set of tries on the day. The utility back beat two defenders on attack and then also had three clean breaks. The American did not have the best day on defence as he only made 40% of his tackles but today’s mention is all about his attacking play.
