Top 5 performers of the weekend

Toby Flood

Flood had an outstanding performance for Toulouse, despite playing out of position in the role of number 12. The Englishman showed his class against Zebre when he got on the end of McAllister's chip kick, and expertly finished off the score. Flood was also in charge of kicking duties, and certainly didn't disappoint as he converted 7 of 9 from the tee.

Owen Williams

The out-half really stepped up to the plate after the Tigers lost their first-choice ten, Freddie Burns, to injury last week. He had an unblemished performance from the boot, scoring six penalties from six attempts. The last one was a real pressure kick, as he split the posts from beyond the halfway line to win the game. The Tigers will be delighted that they have the Welshman to deputise while Burns is out through injury. The former Llanelli Scarlet definitely put his hand up for a place in the Welsh six nations squad with his outstanding performance.

Sean Cronin

Cronin was one of many Leinster players who were in scintillating form on Saturday. Cronin worked hard around the park and seemed to cover every blade of grass in the Aviva Stadium. Cronin showed some surprising pace in the second half as he broke the line stepping and weaving through the Saints defence. Cronin also bagged a try after starting the attack with his speedy break. The hooker looked more like an outside back rather then a front row on Saturday.

Finn Russell

The out-half again stood out for his Glasgow side. He put them on the front foot as he played flat to the line for the whole game, often running the ball from his own half. He was a threat all evening for the visiting Racing side as he varied his game well, putting in clever grubbers and chips ahead which put their back three under pressure. Though he didn’t kick particularly well from the tee, he played a crucial role in each of his team’s five pointers. It’ll be hard for Warren Gatland to not consider him for his Lions squad this summer after his performances in the past couple of weeks.

Camille Lopez

The French out-half was crucial to his Clermont side today, as they demolished Ulster at Stade Marcel Michelin. The out-half put the ball on a plate for Nick Abendanon to score, with a pinpoint accurate cross-field kick. Minutes later the number ten picked off a pass from Ruan Pienaar and showed great wheels to beat the Ulster defence and score in the corner. The French international also kicked a penalty and conversion from the tee, in the second half, to round off a fantastic performance.
