Finn Russell
The out-half put in an outstanding performance today in his side’s Six Nations clash with Wales. He dictated the tempo of the game and marshalled his backline masterfully. He vanquished the doubts surrounding his place kicking by recording an incredible 100% success rate, scoring 7/7, some of which were difficult touch line kicks. He got his just rewards as he was deservedly named the man of the match after Scotland’s really impressive defeat over the Welsh. The young man continues to play his way towards a potential spot on the Lions plane in the summer.
Hamish Watson
Watson would have been bitterly disappointed not to be selected in the starting 15 but he took his opportunity when called upon after John Hardie suffered an injury 23 minutes into the game. Watson took no time to warm up and got straight into the action with immediate effect. He was a menace at the breakdown forcing turnover after turnover and never given the Wales players a moment of peace. He was a rock in defence constantly driving the Welsh attackers back over the gain line and was a definite contender for man of the match this afternoon.
Liam Williams
In what was a disappointing, underwhelming Wales performance, Liam Williams was the shining light. His electric pace and mesmerising footwork had the Scottish defence at sixes and sevens at times, his attacking efforts culminating in an excellent try after just 23 minutes. As always, he was reliable under the high ball and his territory kicking was fantastic. Despite being disappointed with the overall result for his side, Williams can take immense pride in his excellent performance today.
