Tigers and Bears do battle at Welford Road
- 1039
After their somewhat surprising loss last weekend, Bristol will be hungry to roll up their sleeves and bag the maximum points when they travel to Welford Road to face the Leicester Tigers.
Bristol received a shock in the face of a fantastic performance by Sale who managed to outdo the log-leaders with aplomb on the latter’s home turf. A fiercely competitive first half saw no score on the board as they teams jogged off at the break but Sale stepped up another gear in the second half and played at a tempo that Bristol struggled to live with.
The result has put Bristol’s lead at the top of the table in jeopardy as they now lead the high-flying Exeter by just three points.
Leicester breathed a sigh of relief as the final whistle sounded in their Round 20 fixture with Worcester at Sixways – the visitors coming away with a 1-point victory. While the Tigers were expected to win, few (including, most probably, themselves) thought they would have to dig so deep to do so.
Leicester will look at trying to improve on their fixture against Pat Lam’s men when they were outscored two tries to zero at Ashton Gate.
