The First Run Of The Ranger Express - Rene Ranger's International Debut

The 26th of June 2010 saw the All Blacks take on Wales in Hamilton. Shortly after the 50-minute mark, with Wales trailing their opponents by 19 points, the number 22 All Balck jersey trotted onto the park, over the torso of one Rene Ranger – the young 22 year old Blues wing/centre.

His presence on the field was excitedly anticipated by many as Ranger, through his thrilling displays, had gathered a significant following in New Zealand.

With his pace, deft handling and, through astonishing power, a remarkable ability to shake tackles and stay on his feet, Ranger quickly rose as one of the stars of Super Rugby, earning him a call-up from Graham Henry.

As nerve-wracking as a test debut must be, Ranger managed to put in a decent shift in what was ultimately a one-sided affair, running fast and hard and looking for work wherever he could find it.

After only 6 appearances in the All Black jersey between 2010 and 2013, Ranger opted to advance his career overseas. He currently plays for the Colorado Raptors in the American Major League Rugby competition.
