The battle at 10: Who fared best
- 1950
6.Kelly Haimona
A tough game for Haimona to impress in, in what was his Six Nations debut. He was successful with his only effort at the sticks but with Ireland dominating possession he did not have the opportunity to impress. Will be annoyed his try at the end was not given but replays did show that Parisse had knocked the ball forward before it reached the Zebre Flyhalf.
5.Dan Biggar
Biggar will be disappointed with his overall performance against England after going into the game in such fine form. He was part of everything good Wales were doing in the first half kicking over a drop goal just before the break but struggled in the second half. Throughout the second 40, He failed to get the backline going and some of his kicks from hand were poorly executed.
4.Ian Keatley
Ian Keatley will be satisfied with his first Six Nations appearance but his performance was nowhere near good enough to keep Johnny Sexton out of the starting line-up next weekend. He was able to finish the game with a 100% kicking success but his build up play with the rest of the backs was quite poor at times and Joe Schmidt will look to bring Sexton back into the mix for the game against France on Saturday
3.George Ford
After years of playing second fiddle to Owen Farrell, George Ford finally made his first start for England in a Six Nations game. Ford will be satisfied with his performance picking up the man of the match award and was involved in some free flowing attacks from the English backline with the Bath Flyhalf at the heart of it. He won’t be entirely happy with his kicking display but will hope to put that right in next weeks game against Italy.
2.Camille Lopez
France’s new Flyhalf will be delighted with his Six Nations debut scoring all 15 points for the French and also picking up the man of the match award. The Clermont man looked dangerous all game but France were unable to get the ball to him enough in what was a lacklustre performance from Philipe Saint-Andre’s side. Lopez faces an even bigger test next weekend against Ireland with France looking for him to be the game changer once more.
1.Finn Russell
What a magnificent performance from the former Stonemason. Scotland will be disappointed to have lost in Paris but the Performance from Russell is a major positive. The Glasgow Flyhalf, making his Six Nations debut was a threat all night and was one of the best players on the pitch. Vern Cotter will now look for more of the same from Russell when his side welcome Wales to Murrayfield next weekend.
