The 11 uncapped players included in the Ireland squad

Leinster lock James Ryan will captain Ireland during their Summer Series tests against Japan and USA with 11 uncapped players included in the squad.

Commenting on the squad Andy Farrell said:

"I know the players will come in eager to make the most of this opportunity to pull on the green jersey and play in front of supporters for at the Aviva Stadium for the first time in 18 months. Johnny (Sexton), Cian (Healy) and Keith (Earls) will not be involved in this window as we grow the experience of other players. It will be a great opportunity to see can this group perform at this level.”

The 11 uncapped players include three from each of Ulster, Connacht and Leinster as well as two Munster players.

Loose forward Gavin Coombes has impressed recently in red and is joined in the squad alongside second-rower Fineen Wycherley. 


Meanwhile, Leinster flyhalf Harry Byrne is joined by prop Peter Dooley and second-rower Ross Molony are also in line for their first caps. 

Ulster loosefoward Nick Timoney is rewarded for his form in the white jersey while Tom O'Toole and Robert Baloucoune claim recalls and another chance to make their debuts having been involved with the squad before.


The Connacht trio of Caolin Blade, Tom Daly and Paul Boyle have all been named in the squad. Blade has a chance to make his debut with Conor Murray away with the British and Irish Lions and will battle for a place in the side along with Jamison Gibson-Park and Craig Casey. Boyle will battle it out with the likes of Timoney, Coombes and Doris as CJ Stander role in the Ireland squad is up for grabs. 

Ireland face Japan on 3 July before hosting the USA a week later.
