Super Rugby Round 2 Team of the Week

All but one, the Sharks, of the Super Rugby sides were in action this weekend with plenty of big individual and team performances.

That being said there was some outstanding performance that stood out from the rest. Here is our Super Rugby Round Two Team of The Week:

  1. Steven Kitshoff

The Stormers loosehead bossed the Waratahs pack for 69 minutes and even grabbed his first Super Rugby try. He also carried the ball tirelessly and put the Stormers on the front foot.

Close 2nd: Pierre Schoeman

  1. Ash Dixon


Dixon had a fantastic 50 minutes for the Highlanders on Friday, the Maori All Black made 11 tackles, carried the ball 6 times and was solid in the scrum and at lineout time for the victorious side.

Close 2nd: Shota Horie


  1. Siate Tokolahi

The Highlanders tighthead put in a tidy shift against the Blues. He scored a crucial try and force a tighthead at big time during the game.

Close 2nd: Ruan Dreyer

  1. Tom Staniforth

The former Brumbies man made a mammoth 16 tackles against the Stormers and carried the 8 times before being subbed in the 67th minute for a well-deserved rest.

Close 2nd: Lood de Jager

  1. RG Snyman

Alongside his lock partner, RG Snyman had an outstanding performance against the Hurricanes. The pair linked up for a wonderful try and laid the foundation down for their backs with some stellar work rate and set piece work. Snyman made 70 metres from his 10 carries!




Close 2nd: Sam Whitelock

  1. Himeno Kazuki

The Sunwolves blindside flanker put in 16 tackles against the Brumbies as his side almost upset the Brumbies in their opening match of the season. He also carried the ball 9 times and beat 4 defenders.

Close 2nd: Ned Hanigan

  1. Sam Cane

Chiefs captain Sam Cane put in a massive shift in a losing cause as his side went down 45-23 to the Crusaders. The All Black openside made 8 tackles, 11 carries, beat 4 defenders and gained 52 metres. He also scored a wonderful try at a crucial time for the Chiefs.




Close 2nd: Dillon Hunt




  1. Akira Ioane

Ioane had a busy game for the Blues on Friday scoring two tries from his 7 carries. He gained 51 metres and and beat 2 defenders.

Close 2nd: Warren Whiteley

  1. Aaron Smith

Aaron Smith edges Will Genia in our team of the week as the former was able to take control of the game against the Blues and steer his side to victory.

The All Blacks first choice halfback assisted two tries, collected two clean breaks and made 2 offloads but it was his expectional kicking and passing game which cements his spot in the side.

  1. Christian Leali’ifano

Leali’ifano almost single-handedly turned things around for the Brumbies as it looked as if his side were going to go down to the Sunwolves. In his first start in over a year for the Brumbies Leali’ifano was solid on defence and attack making 10 tackles, assisting one try and was involved in everything good the Brumbies did.

Close 2nd: Handre Pollard & Jack Debreczeni

  1. Aphiwe Dyantyi

Coming off the back of an impressive Super Rugby debut against the Sharks last week, the Lions newest speedster Aphiwe Dyantyi was even more impressive this weekend scoring two tries and assisted a third against the Jagaures. He racked up 127 running meteres beating 11! defenders and made 4 clean breaks. The Lions flyer aslo picked up his second man of the match.

Close 2nd: Matt Duffie

  1. Rob Thompson

Thompson featured at outside centre for the Highlanders but has been shifted into 12 to make our team of the week. Taking over from Malakai Fekitoa for the Highlanders is no easy task but Thompson excelled in his first game of the season. He scored two brilliant tries assisted a third and made over 70 metres.

Close 2nd: Kurtley Beale

  1. Tom English

The Rebels punished a 14-man Reds side on Saturday with Tom English one of the homeside's most lethal weapons. He beat 7 defenders, made 33 running metres and made one try assist. On defence he made 3 turnovers.

Close 2nd: Jesse Kriel

  1. Hosea Saumaki

Tipped for great things before the start of the Hosea Saumaki did not dissapoint on his Super Rugby debut scoring two tries for the Sunwolves. He made over 100 metres with the ball in hand beating 7 defenders and made 5 clean breaks.

Close 2nd: George Bridge

  1. Israel Folau

Folau made a try-scoring return from his four-month sabbatical. The mercurial fullback beat 2 defenders from 9 carries, collecting 91 metres and 2 clean breaks.
