The Hurricanes solidified their second spot Conference position with a 30-17 away win over the Sharks in round 16 of Super Rugby. The Hurricanes opened the scoring with an early try, with the Sharks pulling three points back with a penalty. The Hurricanes kept the scoreboard ticking over with two penalties before a second try saw them in control 20-3. The Sharks would get back into the match with a try with the final play of the first half to trail 20-10 at the halftime break. The Sharks started the second half like they finished the first, with an early try reducing the deficit to just three points at 20-17. With a little under 20 minutes to play, the Hurricanes slotted a penalty to make it a six point ball game. Shortly after, the Hurricanes crossed for their third try to once again take control at 30-17. Despite the Hurricanes picking up a late red card, the Sharks were unable to finds a way back into it as the visitors closed out the victory.
