After three seasons in Super Rugby the Sunwolves of Japan were yet to score a win away from their homes of Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. They headed to Hamilton to face a Chiefs side starting the season 0-2 for the first time since 2011. Last time these two had met, in 2018, the Chiefs won 61-10.
