Super Rugby Australia Round 1 Highlights: Reds v Waratahs

The Queensland Reds kicked off Super Rugby AU in perfect fashion with a 32-26 home win over arch-rivals the NSW Waratahs in the opening match of the tournament. 



 
The opening ten minutes saw a try apiece before a second for the Reds saw them up 12-7 midway through the first half. 
 
The Waratahs then picked up a yellow card and the Reds capitalised on their numerical advantage immediately with a third score making it 19-7. The Waratahs managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over, slotting two penalties to head into the break trailing just 19-13. 
 
An early second-half penalty for the Waratahs was followed up by a try as the visitors hit the front for the first time in the match, 23-19 heading into the final quarter. 
 
The Reds however regained the lead with their fourth try, but they then picked up a yellow card shortly after, with the Waratahs kicking the resulting penalty to level things up 26-26 with a little over ten minutes remaining. With the game heading for possible extra time, the Reds edged ahead with a penalty with just four minutes to play. The match was then put to bed with another penalty for the Reds in the final minute sealing the victory for the home side.
