STAT ATTACK: Duhan van der Metre, Billy Burns brilliance & more from Round 9

We've picked out some of the best stats from Round 9 of the BKT United Rugby Championship.

EDINBURGH V GLASGOW WARRIORS

  • Duhan van der Merwe made more carry metres than any other player in Round 9 (164). He was also one of two players to make four offloads.

  • Luke Crosbie made a round-high 24 tackles against Glasgow Warriors. He also won a turnover.

  • Hamish Watson made the joint-most dominant tackles in Round 9 (four). Teammate Duhan van der Merwe also made three.


  • Johnny Matthews scored another try against Edinburgh. His total of ten so far this season is four more than any other player.


BENETTON V ZEBRE PARMA

  • Onisi Ratave made more dominant carries (six), post-contact metres (30), and beat more defenders (seven) than any other player in Round 9. He also made the joint-most clean breaks (two) and offloads (four).

  • Damiano Mazza was the only player to win three turnovers in Round 9.

  • -  Benetton scored six tries against Zebre – more than any other team last weekend and their highest match total this season.

  • Benetton beat a total of 21 defenders in Round 9 – more than any other team. They also  made the joint-most clean breaks (11).

DHL STORMERS V HOLLYWOODBETS SHARKS

  • Hacjivah Dayimani beat more defenders than any other forward in Round 9 (six). He also made two clean breaks.

  • Aphelele Fassi made 30 carry metres against the Stormers. His total of 568 so far this season is more than any other player.

  • Jaco Venter made two more dominant tackles in Round 9, making his total this season a league-leading 11.

  • The Stormers won five scrum penalties against the Sharks – more than any other team in Round 9. They have won ten more scrum penalties this season than any other team (30).

 

CONNACHT V MUNSTER

  • JJ Hanrahan scored more points than any other player in Round 9, a total of 17. This is the third-highest match total so far this season and the highest by a Connacht player.

  • Making another 14 against Connacht, Gavin Coombes has now made a total of 133 carries this season – 42 more than any other player.

  • Connacht made more tackles against Munster than they have in any other match this season, a total of 202. Their tackle success rate was also their best of the season (91%).

  • Connacht conceded fewer turnovers against Munster than they have in any match this season (seven).

 

OSPREYS V CARDIFF RUGBY

  • Mason Grady made as many clean breaks as any other player in Round 9 (two). He has made the most clean breaks this season, 12 in total.

  • Cardiff made more kick-in-play metres than any other team in Round 9, a total of 986.

  • The Ospreys conceded the fewest turnovers (six) and joint-fewest penalties (seven) at the weekend.

  • The Ospreys made more maul metres against Cardiff than they have in any other match  this season (41). They also scored their first maul try of URC 3.

 

DRAGONS V SCARLETS

  • -  Vaea Fifita was one of two players to steal two lineouts in Round 9. He has now stolen a league-high total of seven this season.

  • -  The Dragons won as many turnovers as any other team in Round 9, a total of eight.

  • -  The Scarlets made 58 maul metres against the Dragons – more than any other team in Round 9.

  • -  The Dragons made just 64 carries against the Scarlets – fewer than any other team in  Round 9. No other team has made so few carries and won this season.

  • -  This was the first match this season in which the Dragons didn’t make a single clean break.

LEINSTER V ULSTER

  • Nick Timoney was one of just two players to score a brace in Round 9. In all competitions, he has scored five tries in his last three games.

  • Joe McCarthy made a round-high 21 carries at the weekend. He beat five defenders, two dominant tackles, and won two turnovers.

  • Billy Burns was the only player in Round 9 to assist three tries. No player has assisted more in a match so far this season.

  • Leinster made more carries than any other team last weekend, a total of 143.

  • Ulster made a round-high total of 204 tackles against Leinster. Their tackle success rate was also the highest of the round (92.3%).
