Stadium of Light to host Red Roses Vs Scotland in Guinness Women's Six Nations

The Red Roses will return to the North East to play at Sunderland AFC’s Stadium of Light in the 2027 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

John Mitchell’s side will face Scotland at the Premier League football venue on Saturday 17 April (kick-off 4.45pm) in what will be England Women’s first home match away from a non-rugby stadium outside of a Rugby World Cup.

Fond memories were made in Sunderland back in 2025 when the Red Roses launched their home World Cup campaign in style with a 67-9 victory over the USA in front of 42,723 - a record crowd for a Women's World Cup at the time.

“It was an amazing atmosphere to be a part of - one of the favourites in my career,” Red Roses full-back Ellie Kildunne said.

“I just remember the noise when we got off the bus and the amount of time the fans stayed behind afterwards. It was incredible. They really spurred us on that night.

“If the match with Scotland can replicate anything close to that night, it’s sure to be another memorable occasion.”

Sunderland CEO, Tom Burwell: “This is another fantastic opportunity to welcome the Red Roses back to Sunderland and build on what was an unforgettable occasion in 2025.

“The appetite for major international sporting events in our city is well-known, and we are delighted that the Stadium of Light will once again provide a world-class stage for England Women.

“We know how passionate sports fans are across the North East, and we look forward to working with the RFU to create another special occasion for the Red Roses, while showcasing Sunderland to an even wider audience.”
