South Africa A v British and Irish Lions Top Performers

Joseph Dweba - South Africa 'A':

Despite only playing the first half of the game, Dweba put in a performance worthy of a full game. Dweba gained a solid 19 metres that proved vital to SA A's attack in the first half. It was this attack that allowed the hosts to defend a lead in the second half.
Carries: 3
Tackles: 7

Wyn Jones - British & Irish Lions:

A man that was able to get a try for the visitors definitely deserved a spot in the top performers! Wyn Jones, sadly going off in the 46th minute, actually scored two tries with the first being denied in the first half. Jones put in a powerful performance that meant that the Lions could turn the second half around in their favour.
Metres gained: 7
Tackles: 4

Eben Etzebeth - South Africa 'A':

Thanks to the fact that SA A used the second half to defend the lead that they built up in the first half meant that the forwards needed to be the wall in front of their line. Etzebeth delivered on this requirement making an impressive amount of tackles and an awesome amount of steals for SA A, every one proving to be vital in their victory!
Tackles:15
Turnovers won: 3

Tom Curry - British & Irish Lions:

A player that rarely ceases to amaze. Curry continued with his reputation today, winning the player of the match amongst the British & Irish Lions supporters. Curry showed once again that he deserves a jersey and made a massive impact in his full 80 minutes on the field, despite his team's loss today!

Clean Breaks: 1
Tackles: 11
Turnovers won: 1

Sibusiso Nkosi - South Africa 'A':

An awesome game from the man out wide, Nkosi got the first try of the match showing his great speed on the wing. Nkosi made some great metres for SA A as they flew through to a win today!

Lukhanyo Am - South Africa 'A':

The man who captained the Springboks today showed he has what it takes in his performance! Am provided his team with strong defence and quick attack that allowed them to build a strong lead and then subsequently defend it in the second half. He too was able to get over the line!

Anthony Watson - British & Irish Lions:

Watson was an integral part in the Lions' attack today as he made use of every gap that he could and got some important metres for the visitors. Watson failed to miss any tackles in his match today which meant that the Lions could focus on their attack, knowing their defence was strong!
Metres gained: 48
Defenders beaten: 3
Clean Breaks: 1
Turnovers won: 1

Cheslin Kolbe - South Africa 'A':

What a performance from the Toulouse winger! Kolbe played with absolute flair and speed, showing how truly slippery he is throughout the match. He spotted the smallest of gaps and made use of them, with one such opportunity contributing to Am's try! The winger is a force to be reckoned with, showing that size isn't everything as he is named Man of the Match!
Metres gained: 46
Defenders beaten: 2
Clean Breaks: 1
Tackles: 6

Louis Rees-Zammit - British & Irish Lions:

He was so close to getting a try but it was simply not meant to be for 'Rees-Lightning'. This didn't sway him from playing a great game for his team today though and he was able to contribute very well in the stats side of things. Some could argue that he deserved a try with his performance.
Metres gained: 36
Defenders beaten: 7
Offloads: 1
Turnovers won: 1

The forwards - South Africa 'A' and British & Irish Lions:
The top-performers list for the game cannot be complete without the mention of the forwards of both teams in general. When they were called on to attack, they made the metres, pushed hard at the set-pieces, and powered in their phases. The same can be said in their defence, both teams were difficult to penetrate, as can be seen with a scoreline that isn't very high. Both teams will be happy with their forwards' performances with only slight issues that need fixing.
