Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has been tipped for a move away from the Stormers and Western Province with his current contract expiring in July 2021.
The flanker has been linked with multiple clubs in Europe with Toulouse and Wasps regularly mentioned but the Bok captain is set to remain in South Africa according to report from the Republic.
According to The Daily Maverick, Kolisi is likely to continue his playing career in Durban in due course after US-based private equity consortium MVM Holdings acquired a controlling 51% stake in the Sharks, which marks the first foreign ownership of a South African rugby team.
MVM Holdings had initially been courting the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) to purchase a controlling share in the Western Province but that eventually fell through and following the failure by WPRFU to agree to terms with the consortium, MVM turned their attenetion the Sharks. Kolisi was one of several leading Western Province players who urged the union to take the same deal with MVM when it was offered last August, the Daily Maverick reports.
Siya Kolisi is also represented by the international management agency Roc Nation and the agency's president Michael Yormark is a member of MVM Holdings and the company is also set to help assist the growth of the Sharks’ brand internationally.
Another member of MVM Holdings is Vincent Mai, a renowned South African businessman and philanthropist who has played a pivotal role in Kolisi’s life. Mai is a Grey PE old boy who set up the Vincent Mai Bursary Scheme at the school of which Kolisi was the first ever recipient.
