Six Nations Stats Leaders Round 4: Most metres, tackles, carries and more
- 3165
The most striking feature of Round 4 of the 2020 Six Nations was most certainly France experiencing their first loss of the competition to a Scottish side who were not given much chance before the game. With the Ireland v Italy game postponed, the other match-up saw Wales demonstrate a late comeback, only to be narrowly undone by a solid English outfit.
We now take a look at the top performers from Round 4.
The England back-row forwards are well represented in the tackle stat this week, with Mark Wilson putting his name at the very top with 22. Tom Curry (England) and Hamish Watson (Scotland) both lie in second place with 21 apiece and Courtney Lawes completed 19.
France’s Gregory Alldritt has made himself a regular near the top of the ‘carries made’ stat this season, with Round 4 being no different. The number 8 took the ball to the defensive line on 16 occasions, followed closely by Wales’ Hadleigh Parkes and Nick Tompkins with 15 each. Scotland captain Stuart Hogg came in third with 14.
Hogg was characteristically menacing on attack against the French, using his 14 carries to gain 84 metres for his team. Welshmen Dan Biggar and George North are placed second and third with 74 and 73 metres respectively.
Nick Tompkins has been impressive in the centres for Wales during the course of the competition and currently averages 6 defenders beaten per game. In Round 4 he managed to beat his average, dodging 7 English tacklers. Virimi Vakatawa lands in second place this week with 6 and Dan Biggar in third with 5.
Hamish Watson showed great commitment in the forward exchanges, turning over a total of 4 balls for Scotland. Surprisingly, Welsh winger George North managed the second-highest turnovers in Round 4, with 2.
In terms of clean breaks, the recipients of first and second position are numerous; Matthieu Jalibert and Gael Fikou (France), Justin Tipuric and Nick Tompkins (Wales) and England’s Anthony Watson all made 3 while Sean Maitland (Scotland), Chris Harris (Scotland) and George North made 2.
