Sergio Parisse to stay on in a new role at Toulon?
- 1420
At the age of 37, Sergio Parisse is still going strong in the Top 14 having featured in 11 of the side's 21 matches so far this season.
The 142 test cap veteran joined Toulon from Stade Francais in 2019 and extended his initial one season contract to include the 2020/21 season. With his current contract expiring, RMC Sport have reported that the back rower may well extend his career but yet another year.
However, Parisse could spend the 2021/22 season doubling as a player-coach for the French giants. In an interview with RMC Sport last December Toulon president Bernard Lemaitre expressed the club's desire to keep the Italian around saying “In the form he is currently showing, we would be very happy if he continued for one more year”.
Lemaitre went on to reveal that Parisse has a desire to step into coaching and the club were willing to provide him with his first opportunity but that he was unsure whether Parisse would want to take a step away from the game for a year or two before diving into coaching.
RMC Sport now say that the two parties are in advanced talks to finalise a contract that would see Parisse operate in the two roles.
