Scotland Women appoint Matt Banahan as attack coach.

Having brought a notable playing career to a close in 2021, Banahan was renowned for his appearances as a back for both Bath and Gloucester.

Over a span of 12 years donning the Bath jersey, Banahan, a forceful winger/centre, amassed a total of 264 appearances and achieved the remarkable feat of scoring 100 tries. In 2018, he made a transition to Gloucester, contributing 45 more appearances and adding 12 tries to his impressive record.

Hailing from St Helier in Jersey, Banahan’s talents also extended to the international stage. He represented England in 16 matches between 2009 and 2011, securing four tries. Additionally, his prowess was evident in the England Saxons squad, where he tallied six tries across four appearances. Moreover, he made his mark in the England 7s team, notching eight tries over six events.

Banahan said: “I’m really excited to join the Scotland Women programme. I’ve been seeing the growth of the women’s game and from my experience of playing for so many years, along with my coaching experience, I thought there was no better place to pursue my coaching career.

“I’ve coached in academy programmes and with other teams and I thought this was the perfect progression to pass on knowledge from where my passion stems from.”
