Sale Sharks crave victory against Scarlets

The round will conclude Scarlets hosting the Sale Sharks at Parc y Scarlets.

The Welshmen are in a tidy position at present with 2 wins from 2 outings recorded. The first came in the form of hard-fought victory over Bath in Round 1. Scarlets hung on at the death despite Bath nearly pulling the game out of the fire and having a would-be match-winning try disallowed at the end. It was a valuable away victory for Scarlets who put together some very encouraging passages of play which would have given them confidence for their Round 2 clash with Toulon.

However, as luck would have it, Toulon were forced to withdraw from the second round as a result of a presence of Covid-19 in their camp, thereby gifting Scarlets 5 points.

The men from Sale have suffered some misfortune so far and will be eager to post a decent victory to mark the path forward for them. In Round 1, a powerful Toulon outfit despatched Alex Sanderson’s charges 26-14. Sale found it particularly difficult tame the brilliance of Toulon flyhalf Louis Carbonel who dictated the game beautifully from the number 10 channel. Such was Toulon’s hold on the game that Sale only got onto the scoreboard in the 66th minute through a try by Marland Yarde.

In Round 2, Sale were edged by Edinburgh at the AJ Bell, 16-15. After a strong start, it looked like Sale would take the result with some ease, however, the home side did not count on the impressive comeback which the Scottish outfit put together in the final 30 minutes which, ultimately, secured them the win.

While Scarlets will enjoy the familiar surroundings of their home turf, they will be conscious of the fact that Sale are 2 losses from 2 rounds and therefore ravenous for victory. A challenge for the Welshmen will be keeping a handle on the big Sale pack which, if firing properly, will be very difficult to stop. All things considered, it will be a match-up worth watching.
