Rugby World Cup 2027 names 29 training venues across Australia

Twenty-nine outdoor training venues have been confirmed for the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup, extending the tournament’s reach from its eight match stadiums into rugby clubs, schools, universities and community grounds across seven Australian cities.

The facilities will be used by the 24 participating teams as they move between host cities during the tournament. Each side will have exclusive access to an allocated outdoor training venue during its match week, supported by indoor training and recovery facilities.

Several of the selections are established sporting venues. In Brisbane, teams will be able to train at the National Rugby Training Centre at Ballymore, alongside facilities at Sunnybank and Easts rugby clubs, St Joseph’s Nudgee College, Brisbane Grammar School and Padua College. The city’s World Cup matches will be played at Suncorp Stadium, which is scheduled to host ten games, including two quarter-finals.

Sydney’s training venues include the NSW Rugby Centre of Excellence, the NSWRL Centre of Excellence and Jubilee Stadium in Kogarah. Shore School and the Parramatta Eels Community Centre of Excellence are also on the list, as is Eric Tweedale Stadium at Granville Park in western Sydney.

Sydney is the only host city with two match venues. Allianz Stadium will stage pool and round-of-16 matches, while Accor Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final on 13 November 2027.

Perth’s selections include UWA Sports Park, Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex, the Waterbank Training Facility and HBF Park, known as Perth Rectangular Stadium. World Cup matches in the city will be played at Optus Stadium, beginning with the tournament opener on 1 October.

In Adelaide, Norwood Ovaland Unley Oval have been selected alongside St Peter’s College and Adelaide University West Beach. Adelaide Oval will host the city’s six pool matches.

Melbourne’s three outdoor training venues are La Trobe University, Xavier College and Bridges Recreation Reserve. The city’s eight matches will be played at Marvel Stadium, with its retractable roof closed for the tournament.

In Newcastle, teams will use Southern Beaches Rugby Club, the University of Newcastle and Newcastle No. 2 Sportsground. Four pool matches are scheduled for McDonald Jones Stadium.

Townsville completes the training venue list with the Townsville Sports Precinct, the Cowboys Centre of Excellence and Riverway Stadium. The city’s four pool matches will be staged at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

The announcement follows visits by all 24 teams to match venues and potential bases. Their specific training locations have yet to be announced. Tournament organisers say the community venues could also give local supporters opportunities to watch teams train at open sessions during the pool stage.
