Rio Dyer commits his future to the Dragons

Dragons RFC are delighted to announce that Rio Dyer – one of the most exciting young talents in world rugby – has today committed his future to the club.

The 24-year-old – who has scored 18 tries in 52 appearances for the Men of Gwent – has put pen to paper on a new multi-year contract to remain at Rodney Parade.

A product of the club’s Academy system, Dyer has become one of rugby’s hottest properties in recent years after bursting onto the international stage with Wales.

The Newport-born speedster scored on his international debut against New Zealand in November 2022 and now has 14 appearances for his country, scoring four tries.

Dyer was part of the 2023 Rugby World Cup squad with Wales – playing in five games – and was this week named in the upcoming Six Nations squad.

“We are absolutely delighted that Rio has signed a new contract and committed to his home club,” said Head Coach Dai Flanagan.

“We want to retain our best young talent and build our club around talented, driven, and ambitious Gwent men who are proud to represent us. Rio personifies that and is a key figure for us going forward.

“Rio’s development over the last few seasons, for both club and country, has been truly impressive, alongside his attitude, professionalism, and desire to continue to improve.

“He wants to be a part of what we are building here in the long-term and we’re thrilled that his story will now continue as a Dragon."
