Retirement call from Sébastien Vahaamahina

Retirement call from Sébastien Vahaamahina

On the day he turns 28, France lock Sebastien Vahaamahina has made the decision to end his test career retiring from the international game.

The Clermont second rower made it official on Monday, the day after his red card in the quarter-final of the World Cup against Wales.

Vahaamahina says the decision was made several months ago and is not linked with his sending off in the quarter final. The second rower earned 48 test caps scoring his only try in the game on Sunday against Wales.

In a letter he sent to Midi Olympique , Sébastien Vahaamahina explains:

"I regret this gesture, it is certainly spontaneous and uncontrolled but it remains nonetheless that I am responsible. One and only responsible. It's hard, very hard for me today especially since, as I had planned for several months, it was my last match with the XV of France . I did not make a public announcement concerning my stop in selection because it is not in my habits. The people impacted by this decision have known since this summer: Jacques Brunel, Franck Azéma, some players also."
