North Harbour edged Auckland 23-22 in the Battle of the Bridge in week 7 of the Mitre 10 Cup in an all Premiership clash. North Harbour opened the scoring with an early penalty, but Auckland hit back with two tries in quick succession to lead 12-3. Auckland were then reduced to 14 players after picking up a yellow card. North Harbour slotted a penalty during their numerical advantage to reduce the deficit to six points. Both sides would add a late first half penalty as Auckland held a 15-9 lead at the halftime break. North Harbour got off to the perfect start to the second half, with a try two minutes in seeing them hit the front 16-15. Auckland picked up their second yellow card of the match midway through the second half and North Harbour capitalised immediately with another try to make it a two score ball game at 23-15. Auckland got back into the match with a try with five minutes to play reducing the deficit to a single point, but North Harbour would hold on for the victory over the Premiership leaders.
