Fascinating return of rugby in England as the Premiership got back underway. Some interesting results as the weekend closed off with Exeter Chiefs, Bristol Bears, Sale Sharks and Wasps Rugby making up the top four on the league table after 14 rounds. Here is a look at the team of the week
1. Joe Marler - Harlequins:
68 minutes by the England loosehead in a wet game requiring plenty of work from the men with low numbers on their back.
2. Luke Cowan-Dickie - Exeter Chiefs:
Solid by th England hooker scoring a try and made 9 carries
3. John Afoa - Bristol Bears:
The RWC winner may be getting towards the end of his career but he rolled back the years as he helped monster the Saracens scrum.
4. Maro Itoje - Saracens:
A game that could have gone either way against the Bears with both sides putting in a big shift in tough conditions. Itoje lead from the front for the visitors beating Joe Launchbury into the Team of the Week.
5. Will Rowlands - Wasps:
10 tackles and 3 carries for Rowlands in a 21-34 win over Saints
6. Jack Willis - Wasps:
Huge shift by Willis who bagged a try and adding 11 tackles and 7 carries to the game with 2 important turnovers won.
Zach Mercer unlucky to miss out this week after a fine showing against London Irish
7. Tom Curry - Sale Sharks:
At stages you would be forgiven for thinking both Curry's were on the field at the same time as Tom Curry seemed to hunt in a 2 man pack. 13 tackles and 3 carries in a losing cause. Thomas Young just misse sout on the team this week after a Man of the Match performance on Sunday
8. Jake Polledri - Gloucester:
16 Carries and 8 tackles by the Gloucester 8th man. He was a menace with ball in hand beating 5 defenders and running 115m with ball in hand.
9. Ben Spencer - Bath:
Super performance by Bath's new man as he lead the team to a 34-17 win over London Irish.
Martin Landajo earned Man of the Match in the Harlequins win over Sale but just misses out on this weeks side.
10. Marcus Smith - Harlequins:
11 points and 100% kick success Smith did a great job in the wet and earned 4 turnovers along the way too.
11. Josh Bassett - Wasps:
Bassett scored two important tries in the Wasps win and provided a constant threat on attack and 100% tackles success on defence.
Nathan Earle only misses out due to Bassett's double. Earle showed fine form on his return
12. Siale Piutau - Bristol:
Superb performance by Siale Piutau who constantly popped up on attack and defence proving how valuable he is for the men from Bristol. He pips Jimmy Gopperth into the team who was brilliant for Wasps.
13. Malaki Fekitoa - Wasps:
The All Black tackled anything and everything in a Saints shirt and even though he spent 10 minutes in the bin for a high shot was a threat all over the park. Joe Marchant deserves a mention for his fine defensive display against Sale Sharks
14. Ollie Thorley - Gloucester:
Two tries and just under 100m run with ball in hand Thorley scored a try in each half against 14 man Worcester Warriors
15. Mike Brown - Harlequins:
Two clean breaks and three defenders beaten in his 75m with ball in hand. Fine performance by Brown on a historical night for the man in the Harlequins 15 jumper.
