Pledger ruled out for 2026 Super Rugby season

Highlanders halfback Dylan Pledger will miss the entire 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season after suffering a serious knee injury at training. The setback is expected to keep the talented young player out of action for up to 12 months.

Pledger is regarded as one of New Zealand Rugby’s brightest prospects after captaining the national Under 20 side and breaking through with Otago in the NPC. He impressed in his rookie season, scoring eight tries in 11 matches as Otago won the Ranfurly Shield and reached the final in Christchurch.

The 20 year old had been tipped for a Super Rugby debut in 2026, but those plans have been delayed after the Highlanders confirmed he ruptured his ACL. Pledger said he was disappointed to suffer a season ending injury but is now focused on his recovery and returning stronger.

With Pledger sidelined, Folau Fakatava and Adam Lennox are the two fit halfbacks currently available to the Highlanders.
