Players of the Day: The Rugby Championship

Beauden Barrett

The world player of the year scored the game winning try and added another on the day. He performed admirably in defence making 8 tackles but his 100% kicking success & 62 metres gained in attack helped prove the difference. His versatility was paramount to New Zealand's win as he fitted seamlessly into fullback when switched there from out-half.

Kieran Read

The All Blacks skipper delivered a solid shift and made the difference at the death with his excellent work at the re-start and clean break that led to Barrett's game winner. Read was his usual dependable self with 14 carries in attack as he secured the Bledisloe for another year. The number 8 doesn't seem to be slowing down at all as he ages.

Ben Smith

Deserves his well-earned four-month break after scoring a try to cap of a near perfect performance. 3 clean breaks, 55m in attack and one defender beaten. The fullback come winger doesn't make many mistakes and the All Blacks will miss him dearly.

Malcolm Marx

The South African hooker made quite an impression in Salta with a hugely impressive display. Throughout he was a physical presence at the breakdown using his bulk to earn 2 crucial turn overs and many penalties for his side. His line out throwing impressed also and his ball carrying was as powerful as ever. Performances like this won't hurt South Africa going forward.

Siya Kolisi

Kolisi scored two tries and gained 76m off of 4 carries in his sides impressive victory in Argentina. Throughout the game he popped up as a supporting runner time and time again. His work rate made a big impact as he tackled tirelessly and hit ruck after ruck. His dynamic style of play caused all sorts of problems for the Argentinian defence.
