Player Ratings: Italy v Wales
- 2693
Wales claimed their eleventh consecutive victory as they claimed an 11 point victory in Rome. The Italians kept the game tight up until the hour mark before Wales ran away with the game.
Here are our player ratings from the clash in Rome.
1. Nicola Quaglio 6.5
A busy night for the loosehead making all of his 12 tackles. Earned a penalty in the first half for a massive scrum.
2. Leonardo Ghiraldini - 6.5
Solid in all facets of the game, workmanlike performance from the veteran.
3. Simone Pietro Ferrari - 6
Got through a lot of work and held his own in the scrums.
4. David Sisi - 6
Embraced the physical side of the game and was on hand to help drive Steyn over the line.
5. Dean Budd - 5
Got through a lot of work on defence and in the rucks before heading off shortly after half time.
6. Sebastien Negri - 6.5
Brutually physical in everything he did. Made 13 thumping tackles and 8 carries before taking a breather in the 56th minute.
7. Braam Steyn - 8
An outstanding performance by the South African born flanker. He was all over the pitch making 16 tackles and 11 carries. He also picked off a few of Wales' lineout and was superb at the breakdown.
8. Sergio Parisse - 6
Excellent at the lineout putting Wales under pressure and was just as effective in the air. A run of the mill performance from the veteran making his presence felt on attack and defence.
9. Gulielmo Palazanni - 6
Provided his side with quick ball and made intelligent calls on attack.
10. Tommaso Allan - 6.5
Missed two of his attempts at goal but his game management and attacking play was a standout. He did well to set up Padovani and constantly kept the Welsh defence guessing.
11. Angelo Esposito - 6
One of Italy's most dangerous attacking weapons. Topped the running metres for his side (57) and was solid defensively.
12. Luca Morisi - 6
Solid defensively making 11 tackles, making it incredibly difficult for Wales to get on the front foot.
13. Michele Campagnaro - 7
Improved performance in his preferred position. Campagnaro dealt with Jonathan Davies relatively well but was caught out in the latter stages of the game.
14. Edoardo Padovani - 6
Padovani was great in the air, finished off a try well and was a threat on attack. He slipped off at times on defensive with Josh Adams having a strong game.
15. Jayden Hayward - 5
A few moments of magic from the 31-year-old but he will roe his defensive performance.
Wales
1. Nicky Smith - 7
Solid in the scrum and made 6 tackles and 5 carries and was effective in the rucks.
2. Elliot Dee - 6
Carried the ball well but had a few lineout throws picked off by the likes of Parisse and Steyn.
3. Samson Lee - 7.5
Some strong carries and a massive shift in the scrums.
4. Jake Ball - 5
Did some hard graft and carried the ball well but was taken off Alun-Wyn Jones who made more of an impact and sured up the lineout.
5. Adam Beard - 6
Threw his weight around and disrupted Italy's driving mauls but was largely quiet throughout the game.
6. Aaron Wainwright - 7
A strong performance from the 21-year-old back-row. He is never ending tank saw him get through a boatload of work with some eye-catching tackles.
7. Thomas Young - 6.5
Bought Tommaso Allan's dummy in the lead up to Edoardo Padovani's try and had a try of his own disallowed in the final play of the game. Doggish performance at the breakdown and made 14 tackles.
8. Josh Navidi - 7.5
Filled in well at the back of the scrum and picked up the man of the match award in what was a pretty quiet night by his standards.
9. Aled Davies - 6
Made a key break down the blindside in the build-up to Wales' first try but was otherwise hit and miss throughout the game.
10. Dan Biggar - 5
Piled up 14 points with his accurate boot but had some wayward kicking out of hand and largely failed to ignite the Welsh backline.
11. Josh Adams - 7.5
Adams was excellent on attack and was his side's most dangerous back. He gave Wales front foot ball and regularly handed defenders off, his efforts were rewarded with a second-half try.
12. Owen Watkin - 6.5
Showed his quality in defence and with the ball but was part of a midfield that was largely ineffective before he got on the end of Anscombe's dink over the top of the Italian defence.
13. Jonathan Davies - 6.5
Blew a potential try with a cut-out pass. Almost scored himself when he chipped the ball through but a knock on disallowed the try that may have been scored had he used the two attackers out wide instead but later had a hand in Josh Adams' try. Great in defence as per usual.
14. Jonah Holmes - 6
Made a few questionable calls on defence but worked hard throughout the game with little reward.
15. Liam Williams - 6
Made a clever break that created Wales' opening try for Josh Adams. Otherwise a relatively quiet game from the fullback.
