Player Ratings: All Blacks v Wallabies
- 4534
The All Blacks made it a clean sweep in the Bledisloe Cup for 2018 as they brushed the Wallabies aside to claim a 37-20 victory in Japan.
We ranked all the starting players from the clash out of 10:
All Blacks
1. Joe Moody - 7
Solid scrum work, was excellent around the park making 10 tackles. His ball distribution is something that sets him a part from most props and he showed it off in this game.
2. Codie Taylor - 7
It's not often that Taylor has an off day and today was no different. His set pieces were as solid as always and he was great on attack, providing the link between forwards and backs.
He did get involved in a few scuffles, one of which saw Tolu Latu spending ten minutes in the bin, but otherwise another strong performance.
3. Owen Franks - 6
A quiet game for the All Black centurian. Like Moody, Franks' scrum work was solid but the front-rower was relatively quiet around the park before being replaced in the 51st minute.
4. Samuel Whitelock - 7
Whitelock terrorised the Wallabies lineout and made 7 tackles before being given a well-earned break with his regular locking partner Brodie Retallick making his return from injury.
5. Scott Barrett - 7.5
Another strong game by Scott Barrett as he got through a lot of work around the park and was aggressive throughout. He was also heavily involved in the Wallabies troubles at lineout time.
6. Liam Squire - 8
Squire's starting place has been under threat recently but the Highlander's man stepped up today as he opened the scoring when he ran a superb angle to slice through the defence.
He made all of his attempted tackles and did well to limit the damage Pocock and Hooper could cause at the breakdown.
7. Ardie Savea - 8.5
Savea is making the most of his opportunities in the starting line up and produced another strong performance in this game.
He was aggressive in everything he did and linked up well on attack.
8. Kieran Read – 8
Read dealt with everything the Wallabies threw at him and dealt with it well. He was strong defensively, ran great lines on attack and scored a classic no.8 try just before the break.
9. TJ Perenara - 7
Perenara didn't disappoint after his form was rewarded with a start in the no.9 jersey.
He provided his teammates with brilliant service and made intelligent decision. His performance will further his claim for more minutes in the starting jersey.
10. Beauden Barrett - 8.5
Barrett was exceptional against the Wallabies in the first two test against the Wallabies this year and today was no different as he broke through the Wallabies defence with regular ease.
His passing, kicking and general play was top notch as too was his kicking off the tee missing just one of his 5 attempts.
11. Rieko Ioane - 8.5
Another sensational performance by the young All Black who has been brilliant for the All Blacks since making his debut in 2016.
The flyer made over 100 running metres, maintained a 100% tackle success and was directly involved in two tries.

12. Sonny Bill Williams - 8
An excellent game for Williams who looked back to his best as he drew in multiple defenders before producing excellent offloads.
He set up the All Blacks opening try with a great flat pass and gave the All Blacks great front foot ball to attack from.
13. Ryan Crotty 6.5
A really quiet and uncharacteristic performance by the Crusaders man. Crotty is regularly involved with the All Blacks tries but was relatively ineffective on attack in this clash.
14. Ben Smith - 9
106 running metres, 3 clean breaks, a try, a through the legs pass and some excellent steps Ben Smith was on fire against the Wallabies in Japan.
Smith barely put a foot wrong throughout the game and was arguably the best player on the pitch.
15. Damian McKenzie - 6.5
After playing flyhalf for most of the year, McKenzie reverted back to fullback for this game.
The 23-year-old failed to rack up the kind of running metres we are used to seeing but overall was solid at the back for the All Blacks.
Wallabies
1. Scott Sio - 7.5
Overall a strong game by the Wallabies front-rower. He was effective with his ball carriers and made a few good offloads.
He also gave Owen Franks a few problems at scrum time.
2. Folau Faingaa -7
Faingaa's rating could have been higher had the Wallabies sorted their lineout issues.
His scrummaging was good and he was aggressive on attack and defence.
He also came up with this lovely offload from a restart:
3. Allan Alaalatoa - 7
Like his fellow prop, Alaalatoa was strong at the scrum and was busy around the park. He also showed some nice skills with the ball in hand.
Overall this front row could get few more starts together if they continue to perform like this.
4. Izack Rodda - 5
Rodda along with his second-row partner failed to provide the Wallabies with effective attacking ball at the lineouts.
He was effective at the rucks winning three turnovers but wasn't involved enough on attack to get his side on the front foot.
5. Rob Simmons - 5.5
Michael Chieka identified Simmons as a player who should use this game to put his hand up.
Simmons didn't disappoint with his general play but his ability to run the lineout is a growing concern for the Wallabies.
6. Ned Hanigan - 5
Hanigan was busy around the park during his 50 minutes on the pitch making 23 running metres from his 6 carries and made 5 carries.
He was probably taken off too early but his replacement Jack Dempsey not making as much of an impact.
7. Michael Hooper -7
Hooper was his usual busy self making 7 tackles and 7 carries. He racked up 40 running metres and made 2 clean breaks.
8. David Pocock - 7
Pocock was a threat at the breakdown yet again and forced a number of penalties throughout the game.
His efforts were not enough as the All Blacks showed off their clincal nature grabbing 5 tries.
9. Will Genia - 6
A tough game for Genia as he was provided with a poor base to attack from.
His passes and kicks were on point and he made the best of the attacking ball he was provided.
10. Bernard Foley - 5
Like Genia, Foley made the best of the ball he was provided. His kicking game was good throughout the game but could not ignite the attack and get the Wallabies into good attacking positions.
11. Marika Koroibete - 7
A good game for the winger who made 40 running metres and assisted a try. Unfortunately for Koroibete, he was fronted up against a red-hot Ben Smith.
12. Kurtley Beale - 6
Like Foley, Beale was unable to ignite the Wallabies attack. He converted a nice long-range penalty but was relatively quiet throughout.
13. Israel Folau - 8
Probably the best Wallaby in this game. Folau may have worn the #13 jersey but often popped up on the wing or at fullback to start some promising counter attacks for the Wallabies.
He made 100 running metres and scored yet another try. He also made a few stellar offloads.
14. Sefa Naivalu - 5
Naivalu was relatively ineffective on attack but made all but one of his attempted tackles. He also did well to finish the Wallabies first try but was subsituted shortly after the break.
15. Dane Haylett-Petty - 5
An average game for Haylett-Petty considering his recent form. He made just 39 running metres and one offload.
