Penalty shoot-out sees Toulouse take Munster scalp

Defending champions Toulouse booked their spot in the Champions Cup semi-finals after a dramatic place kicking competition with Munster after it ended 24-24 after extra time.
Munster struck first with a try nine minutes in, but Toulouse immediately hit back with a score to make it 7-7. Toulouse went ahead with their second try after 25 minutes to make it 14-7. Munster missed a penalty attempt after 34 minutes, but crossed for their second try just before halftime as the sides headed into the break all square at 14-14.
Munster missed an early second half penalty but a minute later scored their third try to hit the front 21-14. Toulouse picked up a yellow card with half an hour remaining, with Munster adding a penalty seven minutes later to head into the final quarter with a 24-14 advantage.
Toulouse needed a response and a try after 66 minutes saw them narrow the deficit to just three points. Toulouse drew level with a penalty five minutes from time, setting up a tense finish. Munster had a chance to snatch it at the death, but the long range penalty attempt about 56m out was wide as the sides headed into extra time.
The arm wrestle continued throughout extra time, with neither team able to break the deadlock after ten minutes each way, meaning the match would be decided with a place kicking competition, up to six kicks at goal from each side.
Both sides were successful with their first attempts, but Munster's second went wide and Toulouse took advantage to make it 2-1. The next kicks for both teams were good, but Munster were then off the mark again. Toulouse once again capitalized as their attempt sailed through to make it 4-2. Munter had to slot their next attempt to keep the competition alive, but were once again off target to see Toulouse march on into the semi-finals where they will face Leinster.
