Ospreys vs Cardiff: Top 3 Performers
- 2471
James King
The flanker led his Ospreys side gallantly with an impressive return of 13 carries, 16 tackles and 3 turnovers. He epitomised what is good about this welsh side as he constantly looked for the ball in attack, be it off of his scrum-half or on the shoulder of his other teammates. He also was relentless in defence, making tackle after tackle and crucially stealing the ball on three occasions which set his side away on counter-attacks from which they scored.
Josh Matavesi
The Fijian international was absolutely crucial in his side’s victory tonight as he released his outside backs time and time again. It was no wonder that try-scorers tonight included Dan Evans, Ben John and Eli Walker. Matavesi committed defenders throughout the game which left acres of space for his teammates out wide. He also showcased his impressive distributing skills, assisting John and Evans as they went in for their scores. He carried magnificently, especially for his own five pointer. He took the ball on a hard line from scrum-half Habberfield before running through a couple of defenders to dive over the try-line.
Sam Davies
The young out-half again showed wisdom beyond his years as he was brought back into the starting ten shirt for this one. He completely justified his selection ahead of Dan Biggar as he ran his backline with a sense of panache and kicked well out of hand. Though he missed a few kicks at goal in the game, his side will be elated with his performance as he ran hard at the Cardiff line and unleashed his outside backs frequently. It will take a big performance from Biggar to oust his apprentice from the starting fifteen.
