Nic Groom able to see the funny side of mistaking a train horn for the halftime hooter

Edinburgh scrum-half Nic Groom has retained his sense of humour despite mistaking a passing train's horn blast for the halftime hooter in the 1872 Cup clash between Edinburgh and Glasgow this weekend.
The South African booted the ball out of bounds with 30 seconds remaining in the first half of Edinburgh's 23-22 defeat to Glasgow Warriors on Saturday mistaking the train's horn for the half time hooter as head coach Richard Cockerill explained.
“He thought that the train’s horn was the half-time horn, which he’s used to from the southern hemisphere even though he’s been here a couple of years,” Edinburgh coach Richard Cockerill said.
His Glasgow counterpart Danny Wilson quipped: "I dropped the train driver a WhatsApp and told him to make sure he smashes that horn when he drives past!”
Situational awareness, it’s union not league and that hooter was a passing train not half time😂@nicgroom @GlasgowWarriors 🏉 ⚔️ 🏴 pic.twitter.com/WpiEsg6Tx3

That mistake gave Glasgow Warriors youngster Ross Thompson the chance to kick a penalty and swing the momentum back in Glasgow’s favour with the penalty closing the gap to just a single point at the break (Glasgow 9-10 Edinburgh).
Glasgow then scored two quickfire tries in the second half through Matt Fagerson and George Turner. Edinburgh hit back with two tries of their own but Glasgow were able to hold on for the wing which not only moved them off the foot of Conference A but levelled the 1872 Cup series at one win apiece.
“It was a bit frustrating, because we had managed a good score and were looking to go in further ahead at half-time, but we give them free territory for no reason and end up being punished. We conceded three points and lost by one,'' Edinburgh cpoach Cockerill said in the Scotsman.
“It’s not Groomy’s fault, but it’s those tiny moments, and there were lots of them in the first 20 minutes after half-time as well, where we didn’t look after the ball well enough and didn’t do the basics well enough.”
Groom took to Twitter after the game to comically lodge a complaint with ScotRail tweeting: Hey @ScotRail, how do I reach your complaints department?'
Sorry, I misheard you. Could you repeat the question?😉 #LifesAToot ^Megan
