Namibia’s Participation At World Cup In Jeopardy

Namibia's participation at the Rugby World Cup in Japan is in jeopardy following a conflict between the professional and amateur arms of Namibian Rugby.

According to a report by Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, the Namibian Rugby Union, considered to be the amateur arm of Namibian Rugby, has been in a deadlock with the professional arm, known as Namibia Rugby Limited, over control of local rugby affairs.

After being elected in April last year, the NRU wanted full control of all local rugby affairs from NRL, but talks broke down, and the NRU requested a World Rugby intervention.

The report goes on to state that the NRU board is refusing to sign off any national teams before their demands are met, putting Namibia’s participation at rugby’s showpiece event in doubt just eight months before it kicks off.
